I want to begin our time today by bringing to mind and remembering my friend Pastor Larry Caldwell, who went into glory at the end of September of this year in 2024. He was a faithful brother who lead his church and food pantry that God had bestowed upon him, and certainly was impactful in a positive way to a lot of people’s lives. Larry knew his Bible from end to end, and it indeed was the core foundation of his life. Over the next couple weeks, I’ll be CONTINUE READING SERMON...

Hebrews chapter 8, beginning in verse 1: “Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, a minister in the holy places, in the true tent that the Lord set up, not man. For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; thus it is necessary for this priest also to have something to offer. Now if he were on earth, he would not be a priest at all, since there are priests who offer gifts according to the law” (ESV). CONTINUE READING SERMON...

Hebrews chapter 7, starting in verse 1: “For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, and to him Abraham apportioned a tenth part of everything. He is first, by translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then he is also king of Salem, that is, king of peace. He is without father or mother or genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but resembling CONTINUE READING SERMON...

Hebrews chapter 6, starting in verse 13: “For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself, saying, “Surely I will bless you and multiply you.” And thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise” (ESV).

Today we come to the infamous chapter, or might we say, the more difficult chapter we know from Hebrews. Hebrews chapter 6, starting in verse 1: “Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, and of instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment” (ESV). Hebrews chapter 5, starting in verse 1: “For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is beset with weakness. Because of this he is obligated to offer sacrifice for his own sins just as he does for those of the people. And no one takes this honor for himself, but only when called by God, just as Aaron CONTINUE READING SERMON...

Hebrews chapter 4, starting in verse 1: “Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem to have failed to reach it. For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened. For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said, “As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall not enter my rest,’” although his works were

Hebrews chapter 3, starting in verse 1: “Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, who was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in all God's house. For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. (For every house is built by someone, but the builder

Hebrews chapter 2, starting in verse 1: “Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders

Last week we began our study of the book of Hebrews, and if you missed that, you’re going to want to go back and catch that one. Today we continue along in chapter 1. We find ourselves in verse 5: “For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you”? Or again, “I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son”?” (Hebrews 1:5, ESV).

For the Christian seeking a greater depth within the New Testament, the epistle to the Hebrews is a good place to go. It’s generally not a book, it seems we might say, that a baby-Christian would go to as his or her first choice. On the other hand, that choice might be true for a Jewish person—especially one who is coming out of a stricter sect of that religion. Hebrews is multilayered, and it ties, or bridges, the setup and observance of the Old Testament
